Edge control is a naturals best friend sometimes.

Today I’ve been playing around with fishtail braiding and my edges were looking a little rough. So I dug into My hair product drawers and pulled out the little hair survival kit my wedding hairstyles gave me. I only used it once on the honey moon never on the actual wedding day.
Any way she gave me this little vile of edge control that I have know idea what the name is. It’s so tiny if I used it regularly I’d be out of it in a week. I’ve been using it really sparingly, but when I do use it it really does the trick. It’s amazing, smells good and it doesn’t flake up. It’s like a heavy grease that makes my edges lay down just like I like them.
I should call her and Ask what she used, but I have this weird fear of calling people especially when I haven’t talked to them in a while. The worse part is the longer I wait the worse it gets. Yeah I got problems.
Other hair news. It seems like my hair is responding well to me using only natural products like coconut oil and aloe Vera juice. Today it even seemed longer when I was styling it.
I got some soreness from my last hairstyle. I think it’s from the hairpins I’ve been using. I got those out of the survival kit the wedding stylist gave me also. The down side to them is all the black paint is pealing off and getting into my hair:(.
I’m wondering if I’m allergic to the metal. When I wear fake jewelry my neck, arms, & ears breakout with exzima. I often get soreness  and bumps on my scalp when I do pinup styles with hairpins. I’m wondering if the same rules apply for my hair that do for my sensitive skin? If so how will I do my pinup styles with out hair pins?

I shouldn’t care but I do.

So today on my way to work. These two young people was making fun of my hair. They thought I couldn’t here them because I had on headphones, but I had them turned down real low so I could hear the stops being called. I know it should not have hurt me because I know my hair looks good today. However; it did sting a bit. It was a boy and girl. The girl had one of those plastic looking lace front wigs on almost to her eyebrows. I felt like your one to talk. Your hair came from mettle ya broke down Barbie. You look ridiculous and have the nerve to crack on me. My hair grew out my head for free. You payed to look terrible. It hurt as you can see and it resulting in me mentally bashing a person of my race for there hairstyle choice. This is something I try to avoided. I believe in to each his own. If you can’t hang with team natural in the words of shameless Maya do you boo. Today it irked me and hurt me. I really don’t know why. I should be use to it I’ve been natural for so long. As I got off at the train station I saw so many natural sistas with big medium and small curls. I thought I’m not a minority I’m part of the new majority. So why should I care if some people don’t get it they are a small group. I still do sometime though. It’s a weird feeling to be shameless and shamed at the same time. 😦

Can some hair styles promote brain damage?

So it happened again today. I got a head ache from my hairstyle. This happens to a lot of naturals I know so I know I’m not alone. It usually occurs when I put my hair up I a high puff, or a bun. When I reach up into my scalp it’s like all the skin on top of my head is bunched up in one spot. When I finally can’t take no more and take it down I can physically feel my scalp slowly moving back into its original intended position Ouch! I usually avoid those styles because after I get a head ache I get a sinus infecting for some reason. It last all day sometimes 3 days. Which you can imagine is bad business for a singer. In college I avoided these styles like the plague during my vocal juries. I always feel like I’m causing some serious long term damage there like a blood clot or tumor. I know of some ways to avoid the head ache when your hair is in a high puff from a video I saw on YouTube from my natural sisters. It basically involves a two part puff that looks like one in the end. However, today I was already feeling sick so I was not about to take a chance on adding a head ache to the equation. I didn’t get to wash my hair Monday like intended, so I had to wash and style my hair before I went to work. I was on a time crunch and I needed a quick style to do so I could get a nap in before work. I really did not want to come in to work at all. I hurts to breathe as I type this now. So I looked at the Time and estimated how much time I could spend on my hair in order for me to take some cold medicine and take a nap.  I looked through My Pinterest board natural hair styles for inspiration and I came across one style that I know I had done before. I did the style without pining my ends under however, because my hair is still shorter then it use to be because of that stylist cutting it. My hair kept popping out and looking crazy so I just left it all out. Ok here’s what I did. I put my hair in three small pony tails in the back and a pompadour in the front. That’s it and this gave me a head ache. It’s not to tight or high but my head and nose hurt. That does not go well with it hurting in my chest when I breathe.  😦 I really hope this goes away cause I really don’t feel like changing my hair.

P.S. I put coconut oil I’m my hair today. I must have a fever because its running down the side of my face. Not cool 😦

Random thought. I See You

It’s that feeling you get when you and another natural locks eyes passing in a busy place. It’s like you’re saying hi to an old friend without even saying it. Realistically you don’t know each other from Adam but its like kindred spirits. Basically your just happy to see each other in a sea of lace front wigs and strange looks. No I’m not homeless is usually the look you have to give people.  No I’m not crazy.  I get the same feeling when I see someone with the same car as me. We have such a unique looking car we can’t help but smile and wave. It’s like having a secret club. 🙂

I tried the Greek yogurt deep conditioner from naptural85

It was amazing!!! Whitney AKA naptural85 is a genius to me. I love all her videos and natural remedies, and that baby is the cutest. I tried the Greek yogurt conditioner recipe and even though I did get it on most surfaces in my bathroom I managed to get enough in my hair to make an impact. My new husband was still a little weirded out as to why I was putting food in my hair but he’ll get use to it. Last time I told him I put bananas, milk, eggs, honey and cinnamon in my hair cause a different hair blogger said it maid her hair grow. So he kept dabbing my hair with a piece of bread in public. I was not amused. Anyway the yogurt lavender and apple cider  vinegar really de-tangled my hair well. It was as if the nots came loose as soon as the mixture hit my ends. I was really pleased and my hair felt great. I did end up using shampoo only because my hair was really dirty from the twist. However next time I won’t. Also my hair really felt moisturized from the aloe Vera juice:) I’m really happy. I still used a non homemade hair product to do my twist outs. The first picture is of my hanging twist out. The others is of my flat twist out. Have a blessed day! 🙂

Will hair become damaged and brake off if you don’t dye it regularlyafter getting it colored?

Is it true that if you don’t dye your hair regularly it will break off. Lately I’ve been thinking about not dying my hair anymore. I’m trying to figure out a healthy path to get my hair to the level I think it can reach.

The last time I had it dyed was for the wedding. I went darker. Actually it looks like my original hair color. I picked the color form a swatch the stylist showed me and after she was done the color didn’t seem to show up on my hair. Only time I kinda started to see my color was on the honeymoon in the Bahamas on a really hot day. I could see it through the twist extensions. It was as if that supper hot sun lightened my hair which I know is possible. Just never really saw my hair do that before. Any-who my hair is colored but very close to my own color.

So I’m thinking of laying off the color for a while. Something my old stylist said still rings in my head from time to time when ever I think about quitting color. She told me its like a relaxer. If you stop coloring your hair it will brake off so keep coming in regularly for touch ups on your roots. Now she could have been just telling me this to keep me as a costumer.

She was my stylist when I had a relaxer and since I had gone natural I styled my own hair. The only time I came in was for color and I came in far and few between because she charged $75 for color and a wash. She didn’t use to charge that much till I went natural too. Also after she colored my hair and washed it I went home with wet hair and styled it myself. It wasn’t long before I decided that I should just get a $8 box of dye and do it my self.  I always wondered though if she was advising me right about hair braking off and such or was she just scrambling to keep a customer.

It must have been really shocking to her. I mean I went from coming in every 4 weeks for years, to going MIA for a year and a half to transition, only to resurface to ask her to cut all my relaxed hair off. Something she advised me against. She also advised me to get a texturizer to make my curl pattern softer. I’m glad I didn’t listen to that advice because I soon found out my hair is very soft and has a very cute curl. I hope she was lying about this. If not I soon will find out. Let me know if you have heard anything about this? If anyone is even reading this. Oh  well I’m a do this for me 🙂 I need documentation as a blue print for my hair success. The only other thing I’m worried about is handling all my gray hairs showing up. Peace out home skillets.

Is it the head or what u put on it that makes hair grow long???

So as you know I’ve been havering some problems with my hair. It just was not feeling healthy like it did when I started out on this natural journey. I’ve come to some conclusion it might be what I’m putting on my hair, but I’m not totally sure if this is the case.

In the beginning there was hair and me. No YouTube hair crunches with super defined lush long locks. No natural hair bloggers with all the knowledge on our hair and what we are doing wrong and what we should be doing. Just me and hair and me trying stuff out. My hair liked the organic root stimulator olive oil and sta sof fro combo I did when styling, and my hair seemed fine and clean when I used Pantene Pro V for ethnic hair.

My hair was thick and long even though back then I didn’t realize it. I stumbled across some blogs and YouTube videos one day and decided to abandon my regime and go in search of product that were approved by the natural hair community. Nothing really worked and my hair started feeling like dry brittle crap.

Then I started to lose length and I started panicking and doing constant protective styling. My hair stayed on a steady downward sloop until my stylist cut it for the wedding. I was really upset till I realized my hair felt a little like its old self. So now I’m thinking this is a chance to start over and really grow some heathy  hair. I’m thinking about letting go of a lot of my product junkie ways and using homemade products like naptural85. She is a big hair crush of mine and I’ve

been watching her videos for a long time. The thing that always bothered me was I’ve been natural
A lot longer then her and her hair is crazy long. Now I say I want my hair her length
But I know it’s a lot of work and I probably will get sick of it. All I’m thinking
about these days is how it looks so much healthier then mine. I’m wondering is here hair healthier then mine because
She uses all natural things in her hair or is it that my hair has reached it’s peek .
Will it never be healthy or long? Is it my hair or the stuff I put on it.? I’m making some changes .
I’m taking adult multivitamins now which is something I haven’t done since I was a kid.
Also I’m going to try and clip my hair more often. It might not be every 8 weeks like the stylist suggested but I will try more to keep them healthy.
Also I’m goi g to try some homemade natural hair and body recipes. It won’t
be right away because I just got married and my husband hasn’t been working lately so we broke.
One thing I will be trying soon is   naptural85 Greek yogurt deep conditioner. I’m not sure if she still uses this, but I was watching the video today

And I realized I have majority of the ingredients already. All I need is Greek yogurt
. I’ll let you know how it feels. I just want to make some changes and have some
healthy hair.  I think someone should start a 60 day naptural85 hair challenge. Well that was my random thought for the day.

P.S. I’ve been spraying my hair with aloe Vera juice with a drop of lavender essential oil. Feels nice on my scalp. I really can’t wait till I take down these chunky twist extensions :/

Does hair have an expiration date?

This is something I’ve always wondered. What maid me think about it again today was my kinky twist extensions. As some of you know since my honeymoon I’ve been sporting kinky twist extensions. When I fist decide to do the twists I went to the nearest beauty supply to me which is like 5 min away to buy some hair. I waited patently for the sales girl to see me as I franticly waved and said excuse me. I got the feeling she was ignoring me which is a feeling I get a lot buying hair from this particular establishment. She African American and her boss is Asian so she better adjust that lazy attitude before she finds herself out of a job is what I usually think as she files her nails. So anyway as she looks at me  annoyed I ask her do they carry marly hair in my color. She cuts me off before I can finish my sentence and says no we don’t have your color and goes back to her manicure. Well I just sighed and went back to my car and drove to the second nearest beauty supply which is 5 min in the opposite direction. Yeah I live around my people so beauty supply’s are plentiful. I went in and they were really nice and helpful. They showed me my color right away and I went home pleased. When I got home I was on a time crunch. I needed to finish my hair in the next 24 hr so I won’t look like a crazy person on my flight. It’s my honeymoon so I really wanted to look good without having to style my hair everyday. It was very hot where we went so I knew my hair wouldn’t behave. I also knew I wanted to protect my hair from the elements.  When I opened the hair I noticed that it seemed much courser then it should be. It was not easy to brake apart or manipulate. The hair was just really stiff and rough. I had a similar situation in New Jersey with a different brand of hair. In fact there is a video on my YouTube Chanel about itWatch here. Anyway I was running out of time and that hair had to do the trick. I got it done in time and was whisked away. However I was not totally happy with the look of my hair but I just made due. Well today I was just fed up with my hair & I decided I will go get some more hair to add to make it look fuller. I was in the area of the first beauty supply so I gave them yet another try. Yes she still ignored me but when I did get her attention I picked up a pack of hair and asked is this my color cause I had forgotten. She gave me a quick curt yes. I was happy I only got one pack and moseyed on my way. When I got home I was shocked to find the hair soft and shinny. Free flowing even. This was a shock to me because I had purchased the same brand of hair. Yeah the same brand from two different stores. I don’t know what to make of it really. So I’m thinking either one store is selling an imposter or hair can expire and go bad like milk. What do you make of this situation?

P.S. my hair in the front looks so much better now. Must buy some more. 🙂
